On 1st April 2015 a new Care Act gave the right for eligible people to access independent advocacy to help them to be properly involved in their care and support process.
This covers care assessments, planning and reviews safeguarding matters including safeguarding adult reviews.
To access an independent advocate under the terms of the new Care Act, an individual must meet these two conditions:
- They must face substantial difficulty in being fully involved in their assessment, care and support planning or safeguarding AND
- Have no one available or appropriate to support them to represent their wishes.
Referrals for a Care Act advocate can only be made by a Social Worker.
We can support you or someone you care for to request a Social Worker who makes that referral for you.
