More recently, we have extended our range of services to start providing Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA) to people with learning disabilities. IMCA’s speak up for people who don’t have appropriate family or friends to do so on their behalf, when life changing decisions have to be made and they cannot make the decision themselves.
IMCA’s work with people when they might need to move from where they live or have serious medical treatment. If a doctor or social worker wants to do one of these things and they don’t think the person understands the information enough to decide for themselves, they have to tell us and listen to what we say.
